Movies: Toy Story 4 (U) & Hot Tub Time Machine (DVD – 15)

Toy Story 4 (U) – what’s it about? Woody and the gang go on a road trip where they must protect Forky – Bonnies new toy at all costs.

This is a continuation on from the previous stories after Woody and the gang are given to a new child. So by now with these films you know what to expect and this does continue in the same lines, though I’d maybe say its not as good as the previous ones but it’s still good and is close to them. Yep imo its another good story to the franchise, it gave some giggles, smiles and some heartfelt moments. If you liked the previous ones, then definitely check this out.

Hot Tub Time Machine (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? A group of guys end up getting transported back to the 80s in a Hot Tub that’s a time machine.

So this was a random purchase which I thought I’d give a go, to most this would be classed as a boys movie but it was actually pretty funny and gave me a giggle, but then I like sci-fi and time travel stuff so it was an interesting take on the idea. Yeah, it’s your typical film where people go back and they must not mess up the timeline otherwise things could go horribly wrong in their present but some of the things they have to re-endure aren’t so fun. Yep if you’d like a giggle and grew up in the 80s too then this will probably be right up your street.

Movies: MIB International (12A), Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) & Finding Nemo (DVD – U)

MIB International (12A) – what’s it about? A continuation on from the MIB series but with a new couple of agents.

I wasn’t sure what this one would be like, if it would be any good or not with the change in the cast or if it would be a complete let down. I was pleasantly surprised though, as it was better than I thought it would be. They managed to continue it on in the same vibe as the previous movies. It’s a good reboot rather than a remake which was nice and there were a few nods back to the originals. It even made me laugh, so I’d say it’s worth seeing for nostalgia or if you like sci-fi.

Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) – what’s it about? The story of Freddie Mercury and how Queen sky rocketed the charts.

I hadn’t seen this before but have heard people rave about it for months, my friend wanted to watch it in the outdoor cinema, so I thought that’s something different I’ll give it a go. As for the film, I thought it was pretty good. It kept me engaged throughout which usually real-life stories don’t, I usually get bored and find them really dull, but this kept up the pace throughout and had some good displays of the band’s musical talent. If you are a Queen fan then this will be right up your street but it’s also generally worth a look too, even if you are not sure you’d like it.

Finding Nemo (DVD – U) – what’s it about? Nemo gets taken from the ocean and put in a tank, he and his new fish friends try to escape and get home whilst his dad goes on a quest to find him.

Well I’ve kind of got a thing for Disney movies over these last few months, maybe I’m getting soft in my old age. I thought I’d give this one a re-watch as I saw it on TV last year and I forgot how much I liked it, then I saw the DVD cheap in the shop so bonus! It’s a good little animal story…well fish story, which has its highs and lows and gave me a smile and a giggle but also touches the heart strings too (but don’t worry it shouldn’t send you blabbing). Yeah this is a really special story about family and friendship and is well worth a look if you haven’t already done so.

Movies: X-Men: Dark Phoenix (12A), Meet the Fockers (DVD – 12), Ghost World (DVD – 15) & Little Fockers (DVD – 12)

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (12A) – what’s it about? After Jean has a close encounter in space her powers begin to grow, and she aligns herself with her new dark inner forces.

This is supposedly the final in this series with the new X-Men and it is a nice end to the story, it could have done with another film though before this rather than bam the Phoenix story in just one movie. That said this is still a great film, though I may be bias as I love the X-Men and this is by far my favourite part of the Marvel universe, and plus you know you get to see Nightcrawler <3 total fangirl. Ok yeah, it’s a good film if you enjoyed the newer X-Men movies, it’s got a good lot of story and action scenes.

Meet the Fockers (DVD – 12) – what’s it about? The sequel to Meet the Parents where the Byrnes family meet up with the Focker family with amusing consequences.

So if you liked Meet the Parents then this would be right up your street. It continues on in the same vein but this time at the Focker residence, and you can’t get such different families its amusing. Yeah, it’s filled with humour and some things that are like ohhh I probably shouldn’t be laughing at their misfortune/situation but as it’s a movie and just make believe its ok. If you like a giggle at some stupid humour, then you know check out this series of films.

Ghost World (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? A couple of teenage girls finish high school and basically this is about their lives whilst they figure out what to do with themselves.

Ok I’m trying to think about something positive for this movie and well I’m sorry, but I can’t. Well I thought I’d give it a watch as I’d never seen it and I don’t think I will ever watch it again because it was bloody awful. The story was really boring and slow, not much actually happened and it wasn’t really funny at all even though it’s sold as a comedy – I don’t think I laughed once! Yeah this is what two hours of my life I’ll never get back, seriously don’t even bother with this one…well unless you want to bore someone to sleep that is.

Little Fockers (DVD – 12) – what’s it about? The third and final film in the “Meet the Parents” series, where the families get together for the twins birthday party.

Well I actually had to watch this after watching Ghost World because I wanted something to bring me up after the massive downer of that film and I thought this one may lift my spirits and that it did. It gave me quite a few giggles, it’s one of those where you can just watch and not really think about anything, some parts make you a little cringey, but others are just amusing as you can see it happening in real life. Yep if you liked the previous movies then this one is worth watching too, it may not be as good as it’s all been done a few times before but it’s still a good light-hearted movie to watch.

Movies: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (12A) & The World’s End (15)

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (12A) – what’s it about? Godzilla and the kaiju gang return to battle against King Ghidorah with the assistance of Monarch.

So this is the sequel to Godzilla that was released a few years back, so expect this one to continue on in the same lines/theme. I thought this was pretty cool and it was great to see some of the other members of the gang like Mothra appear on the big screen in their full glory. This is mainly a monster movie with quite a bit of action, it has a bit of story too, the poor kaiju though again getting the blame for the bloody humans causing drama though, god damn them. Yep if you like a good bit of monster action then this will be right up your street.

Rating: ****

The World’s End (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? A group of friends reunite to try to tackle an epic pub crawl which turns out to have unexpected circumstances.

I decided to re-watch this as I haven’t seen if for a while, I love a good Simon Pegg movie, and if you have that sense of humour where you find their antics amusing then you’ll love this one too. It’s basically a movie much like their others, about a couple of friends where weird stuff happening with amusing situations. Yep if you like a laugh with a bit of a light horror twist then check this one out.
