Movies: Gods of Egypt (12A), The Secret Life of Pets (U), Independence Day: Resurgence (12A), Independence Day (DVD – 12), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (DVD – 12A) & Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (DVD – 12A)

Gods of Egypt (12A) – What’s it about? Set puts Egypt into slavery and chaos, and Bek and Horus join forces to kick his butt.

So if you know me then you’ll know Ancient Egypt is a bit of my thing. I absolutely love all the myth and magic relating to all the old gods and goddesses so it was kind of a given that I’d love this movie unless it was complete and utter shite. Thankfully it wasn’t, even though in parts it was a little bit pass the sick bucket love story for me and the accents which didn't fit with the characters made me cringe a little. That said though the action and the story of the gods and goddesses and the world kept me completely engrossed. Yeah it’s a great movie and one to take a look at if you like a good bit of fantasy type stuff. Oh yeah and I totally want a scarab chariot because you know how cool is that!

The Secret Life of Pets (U) – what’s it about? After Max and Duke end up getting taken by the Dog Warden the pair try to find their way home.

So this is a cartoon and it’s been promoted for ages, in my thoughts though the hype has built this up a bit too much, yes it was good and I did laugh and I did enjoy it, but it wasn’t as good as I was expecting. After seeing the adverts countless times I’d seen most of the amusing bits over and over so they had lost their humour by the time seeing the movie. But with all that said I’m not at all saying this was a bad movie; it was really good, enjoyable, light-heated fun for all the family.

Independence Day: Resurgence (12A) – what’s it about? After 20 years the aliens return to try to conquer earth.

I’ve been waiting 20 years for this, 20 freaking years!!!!! So was it worth it, I ask myself? Yes, yes it was! That said though it isn’t as good as the original imo, of course it wouldn’t be, there aren’t many sequels out there that are better than their originals. I’m so glad though I spent the time last weekend to re-watch the original, it made this one so much better. A lot of this in my eyes has been done before, when you watch it you’ll see they’ve just re-hashed some of the stuff from the previous movie or other films, but sci-fi is sci-fi and how many ways can you defend earth from aliens if you know what I mean. Anyway yep, this is a gooden, lots of action, some story, good effects and actors so it’s worth a watch if you like aliens and stuff.

Independence Day (DVD – 12) – what’s it about? Aliens have come to conquer earth and destroy it, can humanity stop them?

Who doesn’t like aliens and the destruction of earth? Ok maybe mankind because you know it’s our home and we have nowhere else to go. This in my eyes is a classic movie, I can’t believe it’s been out for 20 years, it doesn’t seem that long, and when I re-watched it I couldn’t believe how well the graphics and effects in this still looked good. As a movie its aged pretty well, it’s only when you see the technology in this film such as computers, TV and mobile phones that you chuckle to yourself as you realise yes it has actually aged. In general though this is one of my favourite films, just well love it really!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (DVD – 12A) – what’s it about? Sam goes off to have a normal life at college but ends up freaking out and the Autobots come to the rescue…

Transformers robots in disguise – ok how many of you sung that line? Hehe. Anyway enough of that, the movie well if you’ve seen the Transformers movie and you enjoyed its rebootiness then you’ll probably like this one. It’s a continuation of the story with Sam and his Autobot friends, so you know a mix of action, story, humour and of course not forgetting giant robots fighting it out and blowing stuff up…you know the score. Yep yep fun times, fun times.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (DVD – 12A) – what’s it about? Captain Jack sets out find the heart of Davy Jones before his time runs out.

You’ve gotta love these pirates, Captain Jack and the crew are a good source of entertainment. This one is the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, so if you’ve seen that movie and enjoyed it then you’ll probably be entertained by this one as well. The movies themselves I think are great, they have action, humour, story and well pirates so it’s a good mix of fun. They managed to keep the quality of the movies up and with this it’s not like the sequel is shite compared to the original – it’s nearly as good! Anyway lots of rum and pirate fun for all the family…again though it’s maybe a little bit too scary for the real tiny humans though.

Movies: Jumanji (DVD – PG) & Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (DVD – 12)

Jumanji (DVD – PG) – what’s it about? Two children discover a board game that brings the wild world to life.

I hadn’t seen this one in years and thought it was worth a re-watch. It is one of those movies that has that magical feeling about it, much like a lot of the movies from that era, though it maybe nostalgia talking. Anyway yeah it’s a great family film and its aged pretty well too which makes it good for a re-watch all these years later. Good times and good movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (DVD – 12) – what’s it about? Captain Jack Sparrow sets out of get his ship back.

I thought it was about time I re-watched this series, so I’m going to be watching them over the next few weeks. It’ll be nice to see them close together as I’ve never watched them like that. I do love these movies, Captain Jack is a great character and generally they are fab stories. I always thought though, this movie in particular probably in parts is a little spooky for the younger views but that said it’s still an enjoyable family film, just not for the really tiny humans.

Movies: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (12A), Warcraft: The Beginning (12A), Alice Through The Looking Glass (PG) & Underworld: Awakening (DVD - 18)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (12A) – what’s it about? Shredder escapes prison and teams up with Krang to take over the world.

It’s turtletastic! Ok this might be nostalgia talking as I was a massive Turtles fan growing up so to me this is totally awesome. I do love the way they’ve kept the characters personalities and the storylines. Shredder was a pretty cool enemy along with all his little gang; they are such an odd and quirky bunch. This movie doesn’t disappoint after the last one, it’s as good, and again is filled with humour and action.

Warcraft: The Beginning (12A) – what’s it about? The Orcs invade Azeroth in hope of finding a new world to call their own.

I think if you’ve played Warcraft or know of it in some capacity it will help with enjoying this one. I have dabbled but am not a total fangirl but I got a lot out of the movie and stuff but the people I was watching it with didn’t, I came out really hyped thinking this was brilliant but they came out meh. It had a good story in my opinion, gave a little more humanity (probably the wrong word to use) to the races and the world really, and it had some good action too.

Alice Through The Looking Glass (PG) – what’s it about? Alice returns to Wonderland to help the Mad Hatter.

This is the sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland so really if you liked that movie then you’ll probably like this one too. This one has Alice both in the real world and Wonderland so you get a mix of the two and some parts of it are a little dark – well some of the bits in the real world anyway. It was a good story but anyone who knows the Alice stories will know the plot and kind of what to expect, but the movie generally was made and acted well. Yeah I have to say I found it pretty enjoyable and laughed a few times too!

Underworld: Awakening (DVD - 18) – what’s it about? The existence of Vampires and Lycans is now known by the humans and the races must battle for survival.

Raaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh more Vampire and Lycan action in another action packed and violent film with the gang! What more do you want in life than these creatures having a good scuffle and guns and chowing down on the odd human, nothing! This is what life is all about! If you love the Underworld series then you’ll enjoy this one and if you haven’t seen it in a while (like me) then it’s definitely worth a re-watch just to step back into the world!
