Movies: The Gambler (15), Ex Machina (15), Kingsman: The Secret Service (15) & Conan the Barbarian (2011) (DVD – 15)

The Gambler (15) – what’s it about? Jim a university teacher with a gambling problem who owes money to numerous loan sharks – can he pay them back before things get too rough.

This is interesting and reminded me why I don’t gamble…it’s an good story but it’s pretty damn depressing – make sure you have time to watch something cheery afterwards!

Ex Machina (15) – what’s it about? A genius secretly creates an AI – he calls in an employee to assess the AI and how successful his project has become.

This is a really interesting movie – great story and makes you kinda think a bit and you know this is gonna happen one day – and it’s bad idea that’s all I’ll say!

Kingsman: The Secret Service (15) – what’s it about? After the death of an agent, a veteran agent takes on a young apprentice.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one – it could have gone either way but it was absolutely brilliant! Good story, lots of humour and action – a great spy-mock film. The best film of the year so far and yes it’s only January I know but go watch it!

Conan the Barbarian (2011) (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? Young Conan witnesses the death of his father, grows up and becomes a warrior – can he stop an evil lord from taking over…

This is not a remake it’s different than the Arnie movie…it’s a great movie with lots of action and stuff – gotta love that Jason Mamoa!

Movies: American Sniper (15), The Bank Job (DVD – 15) & Chaos (DVD – 15)

American Sniper (15) – What’s it about? Based on the true story of Chris Kyle – it follows his life and career as a sniper for the US Navy Seals.

I set myself up to cry in this movie and I did shed a tear…it was a good movie though – considering it was a real life one and I don’t really like them that much it had enough in it to give the story and not be too depressing like some real life ones can be. It is definitely worth looking at if you like military stuff and true stories – and other stuff too as I don’t even like those genres and enjoyed it!

The Bank Job (DVD – 15) – What’s it about? True story based on the Baker Street bank robbery that happened in 1971, filled with scandal, guns and coppers…

This was interesting – the fact it was real and what they got away with – how they managed it – unbelievable. Anyway – it’s a little slow in parts but it’s still ok…not as much action as the usual Jason Statham movies but still good.

Chaos (DVD – 15) – What’s it about? Two cops go after a bank robber…

Yet another Jason Statham movie, and the last of my Statham marathon. This is pretty damn good but I wouldn't say one of his best but no means the worst. It was enjoyable – and has a good mix of story and action but maybe not as action based as some of his others…if you like his stuff you'll probably like it.

Movies: Revolver (DVD 15), Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (DVD PG), Into The Woods (PG) & Taken 3 (12A)

Revolver (DVD 15) – what’s it about? Recently released from prison gambler – Jake Green gets caught up in between gangs and thieves.

This is pretty good though it’s a little bit meh in parts – but you know what to expect from Jason Statham movies – it has an interesting story that makes it a little more entertaining than just random violence…it’s good.

Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (DVD PG) – what’s it about? The museum exhibits are being retired to storage at the Smithsonian…and Larry tries to save them…

If you like the first one then this follows in the same lines of story and humour – maybe not as good as the first one but still a good light hearted movie with some good giggles.

Into The Woods (PG) – what’s it about? Grimm fairytales – a witch promises to lift a curse from the Baker and his family tree if he brings her four items…

Ok I went to see this and wtf – it’s a freaking musical – a MUSICAL!!!! It was though pretty good considering – not exactly what I expected cuz you know musical!!!...no I hadn't seen any trailers for it...heh...now I learned watch trailer first lol – the only things I will say are the two kids in it freaking annoying but the stories which are the Grimm ones are good as are the rest of the cast…

Taken 3 (12A) – what’s it about? Bryan Mills is accused of murdering his ex-wife – can he prove his innocence…

Before seeing this I thought “hmmm I wonder what the story will be – oh wait his daughter will get kidnapped again” lol. This was a good one – similar style as the others – so if you like them you’ll probably like this but it was better than expected as it wasn’t the same story recycled – it’s worth a look if you love action stuff!

Movies: Exodus: Gods & Kings (12A), Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (15), Birdman (15) and War (DVD 18)

Exodus: Gods & Kings (12A) – what’s it about? The story of Moses…from the bible and freeing the Hebrews from Egypt.

This is pretty damn good – I love Ancient Egyptian stuff so it might have been more cool cuz of this…that said it’s kinda well done – and even though it’s like a bible story (I’m not religious at all) it was still a great blockbuster movie.

Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (15) – what’s it about? Years on and it’s the war – a group of children and their teachers flee the city and end up living in the house (that’s in the previous movie)…and of course the ghosty is still there causing lots of spooks.

Yeah if you’ve seen the first one – this is exactly the same kind of thing – you know the same type of scares in that it’s jumpy and spooky and not gory. It didn’t really make me jump but there are a few scare bits that do that type of thing…if you like spooky-horror movies you’ll probably love this one.

Birdman (15) – what’s it about? Washed up actor sets his sights on the theatre and directs/writes/stars in a show – this is the story to the backstage of the show and his mental state.

Basically this is a movie taking the piss out of all the other action-superhero movies and basically says people don’t enjoy talk and drama anymore…which is probably true…it was basically two hours of talking and drama – its more of a fly on the wall of the backstage of a theatre production as the show goes live – including all the things that go wrong…it’s pretty dull and kinda depressing.

War (DVD 18) – what’s it about? A cops partner is killed and he tries to tackle the triads who he suspects killed him.

If I say Jason Statham and Jet Li that basically sums up what this movie will be like – and that’s exactly it – action – violence – gun fights – bad guys – and a bit of story chucked in. I love Jason Statham – I got a pressie of 4 of his films – get in thereeeeeeeeee!
