Movies: The Curse of La Llorona (15), Long Shot (15), Batman (1989) (12A), John Wick 3: Parabellum (15), The Secret Life of Pets 2 (U), Aladdin (2019) (PG) & I, Frankenstein (DVD – 12)

The Curse of La Llorona (15) what’s it about? A cursed spirit who murders children targets a social workers family.

I didn’t realise when I booked to see this that it was set in the same universe as the Annabelle horror movies, but with that knowledge I kind of ended up comparing it, it was a good watch but sadly it wasn’t as good or as scary as I thought it might be. I found it kind of creepy but wasn’t scared witless by it, maybe because Annabelle is a creepy doll and this was about a ghost. I think maybe if you are a parent this would be a lot more disturbing than if you’re not too. The story was good though and kept me entertained, yeah if you like a light horror then this will be right up your street.

Long Shot (15) – what’s it about? A journalist gets employed by an aspiring President to try to help her win the election.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this from the adverts, I thought it may be ok but it was one of those it could either be good or a complete pile of rubbish. Thankfully it was way better than I thought, and it actually made me laugh and giggle, not hysterical laughter but a good HA. I’m not really a Seth Rogen fan as most of his stuff is just vile humour or sex jokes, but this even though it had a little bit of bad language or grossness to it, it wasn’t over the top. Anyway yeah this was actually a pretty good comedy, where I actually forgot I was in the cinema for a while, I think really this is a 3 ½ star movie but giving it 4 would be overkill, so it’s got 3 from me.

Batman (1989) (12A)  what's it about? Batman befriends a reporter and battles the Joker to save the city.

My local cinema was doing a special 30th anniversary showing of this so of course as a Batman fan I was there with bells on. It was great to get to see it again and especially on the big screen as I never got to see it in the cinema as a kid, it brought back some good memories. It has of course dated a lot now but it was still good to see it in all its glory, its such a great film and worth a re-watch if you haven't seen it in a while. I think now though I may have to re-watch Returns :)

John Wick 3: Parabellum (15)  what's it about? John is excommunicated and tries to battle to survive against basically everybody.

So this is a continuation from the last movies so if you loved them you definitely need to see this one, its of course more of the same. Its filled with high octane action from the start with a little bit of story thrown in but its all about the action. It had a few moments that set me laughing too but I'm not sure if I was supposed to lol - yeah there are some really good death scenes. Yep if you want to watch a good mindless movie and see some great fight scenes then this will totally be right up your street.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 (U) – what’s it about? The pets continue their adventures in this sequel, and the humans still have no clue what they get up to.

So if you’ve seen the first one then you know what to expect with this, its really cute and amusing, it’s definitely similar and continues on in the same vein. It has similar jokes and a good feeling to it, it really captures the characters of what animals are like and their personalities and how they act. If you love animals, humour and cuteness then definitely check this one out – it’s so sweet.

Aladdin (2019) (PG) – what’s it about? A live-action take on the Disney cartoon of the same name, where Aladdin tries to win the hand of Princess Jasmin.

I love a good Disney and this is a classic but I wasn’t sure how this would play out being live-action. It was a good watch, but I think with it not being a cartoon it doesn’t come across as magical and just comes across as too showy and over the top. I think Will Smith made this movie, he was really good as the genie and gave him lots of character, but yeah the rest of the film was pretty average. If you like a Disney movie and a musical then this will be right up your street.

I, Frankenstein (DVD – 12) – what’s it about? Frankenstein and the order of gargoyles battle against demonic forces who plan to bring forth the apocalypse.

This is a good action type movie with a bit of a horror feel, it changes up the story of Frankenstein’s monster in what happens after Dr Frankenstein dies. It’s not scary or overly horror, but has that dark and mysterious feel to it, so it’s not going to scare the younger audience too much. It has a bit of a plot and some good fighting scenes. It’s one of those that is a mindless watch, but don’t expect loads from it as its not amazing but it’s a good watch to pass the time.

Movies: Greta (15) & Avengers: Endgame (12A)

Greta (15) – what’s it about? A young lady finds a handbag on the tube and takes it back to its owner and the pair become friends.

I wasn’t sure what this was going to be like, Thrillers can be a bit hit and miss but this hit the nail right on the head. It managed to keep me intrigued throughout the story and gasping in parts…ok I admit it I was also a bit creeped out by the end of it. Yeah if you want a really good story and a bit of nail biting when you’re watching, then this is probably right up your street. I think truly this is a 3 ½ star movie and worth giving it a watch.

Avengers: Endgame (12A) – what’s it about? The final instalment of the Avengers saga, after Thanos destroyed 50% of all life, the Avengers try to figure out where to go from here.

So going to try to keep this spoiler free. If you liked all the previous Marvel movies then you need to go and check this out asap as it is a good end to the saga, though be warned it is long so make sure you don’t drink too much otherwise you’ll be dying for a wee break but won’t want to miss any of the film. Yep it is filled with everything you expect from the Marvel franchise, a nice dose of story and a good lot of action, though I didn’t find it as funny as some of the previous films and it has quite sombre feel throughout. Yep it’s definitely worth checking out especially whilst it’s on the big screen!
