Movies: The Lego Batman Movie (U), The Great Wall (12A), John Wick 2 (15), A Cure for Wellness (18) & Patriots Day (15)

The Lego Batman Movie (U) – what’s it about? Batman must learn to play well with others.

This is one of those films that’s a kid’s movie but is still pretty entertaining for adults too, it’s got a good mix of humour and action but it also has some deep underline story, which probably would have just washed over the younger audience. I wasn’t really expecting that from a Lego movie, yeah it was a good watch to pass the time and I came away thinking.

The Great Wall (12A) – what’s it about? Two mercenaries are in China on the search for black powder and end up battling creatures.

This is one of those epic fantasy movies that’s very showy and colourful and unbelievable but I liked it! After the run of Oscar movies for the last couple of months it was refreshing to see something fantasy and that isn’t god damn depressing. I thought this was pretty well done, good actors, an oriental flare though unless you like fantasy things I can imagine the people coming out would be like that’s a load of bollocks, but as someone who likes the fantasy world over reality this is definitely an enjoyable watch.

John Wick 2 (15) – what’s it about? John goes after his car and ends up getting sucked back in to the assassins guild.

This is probably just what you expect if you watched the first one, continued violence and killing but just what is needed from this movie, so it’s not a bad thing! It maybe isn’t as good as the first one but it’s still ruddy enjoyable. I wasn’t sure how they were going to continue it but it’s done well, it’s just a shame the ending is left so open and set up for the third movie – it’s like an unending. But yep it’s still a gooden.

A Cure for Wellness (18) – what’s it about? Lots of rich people go to a spa to get well and don’t come back.

So this is billed as a horror and I think the scariest part of it was seeing lots of really old people prancing around naked – this is the only reason why it got an 18 certificate! It’s not really scary at all (and that’s coming from a scaredy cat), they also said its “a must see” – but in truth it’s alright but something of nothing and nothing special at all. If you’re at home and you want to watch something slightly spooky then watch it but I wouldn’t rush to see it at the cinema.

Rating: **

Patriots Day (15) – what’s it about? The story based on the true events of the Boston Marathon bombings.

I’m not sure how much is added to this one to make it a good movie, sometimes you never know with films based on real life, though that said this felt very much as if it is true to the life events (well what was heard on the news here anyway). It’s a good telling of the story and is very much an emotional ride to watch. If you like movies that are based on true events then this is definitely one you need to see – just have some tissues at the ready.
