Movies: My Spy (12A), The Hunt (15) & The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (DVD - 12)

My Spy (12A) - what's it about? A CIA agent is sent to spy on a mother and daughter but ends up starting a friendship with them both.

This was one of those where I thought I may as well go and see it as I had a bit of spare time, I wasn't really expecting much from it, I can't even remember seeing an advert for it. It was an ok film, not like amazing but it was enjoyable enough for pass the time. It had a few funny moments; the story was pretty predicable but quite sweet - it's you typical kids spy film really.

Rating: ***

The Hunt (15) - what's it about? A group of people are abducted and dumped on an estate where they are hunted by rich people for sport.

I've been waiting for this for a while as I was like "oooh a new movie from the people who made The Purge", so I had high hopes for this one. It was a good movie, don't get me wrong it was no way as good as The Purge franchise, but it still had its moments. It was pretty amusing in parts - its one of those where you probably shouldn't be laughing but yeah you can't help it because lol. Yep if you like a bit of a light-hearted amusing horror, I wouldn't class this as horror-horror - except for the occasional bit of gore, then this will be right up your street.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (DVD - 12) - what's it about? The final part of the Hunger Games franchise, where the rebels must try to complete their mission of killing Snow.

I thought I'd give this a re-watch where I saw Part 1 last week, and I'm glad I did as it completed this trilogy in my head. I hadn't seen this since the cinema and kind of had forgotten most of it. So yes, its good to see if you've seen all the others to get a conclusion. It focuses like the last one about the rebels uniting the Districts and taking on the Capitol, rather than the actual games which started it all off. Yep its definitely worth a re-watch if you have some time to pass.

Movies: Onward (U), Military Wives (12A), Fantasy Island (15) & The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (DVD - 12A)

Onward (U) - what's it about? Two brothers go on a quest to find a gem which will bring their father back from the dead for a day.

Ok I'd been waiting for this for ages. It's the latest Pixar creation, featuring all new characters and stuff which is cool, as it's nice to have something fresh and new from them. This really doesn't disappoint, as a geek I really found the characters quite funny and could relate to them a lot, I'm not sure a non-nerdy person would find it as amusing though. Yeah its a good little adventure story which has some fun characters and a good little story to boot. Yep its definitely as good as I was hoping for!

Rating: ****

Military Wives (12A) - what's it about? Based on the true story of the formation of the first Military Wives Choir.

I wanted to see this because it seemed quite good from the adverts, and as a movie it was actually pretty good. It does have quite a few funny moments in it but also some sad ones, I think I shed a tear several times in this, not full on balling but I had a few moments. I'm not sure how much of it is true, but if you have any Military connection you would probably like this more as you could relate to the lifestyle more than someone who doesn't. Yeah if you'd like a laugh and a cry and watch a good girlie story this is worth a look - that said it'll probably appeal more to the older audience.

Fantasy Island (15) - what's it about? A group of people have won a holiday to fantasy island where they can have one desire come true.

I saw the adverts and thought it would be worth a watch as it looked like it could be a good horror. It was pretty average on the scare scale, it was good don't get me wrong, but it wasn't really scary in my book. The characters were good, but it was a pretty predictable film - mostly. Yeah it was good to pass the time, so if you like a little bit of horror in your life but don't want to be scared shitless or grossed out by too much gore then this is worth a look. Yeah it was good but just sadly not really really good.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (DVD - 12A) - what's it about? A continuation of The Hunger Games story where Katniss helps fuel the rebellion.

I thought I'd give this one a re-watch as I haven't seen it in a bit. It's one of those that you need to have watched all the previous films to know what's going on as this is a proper continuation of the storyline. It was one of those though where they decided to split the film into two different parts, maybe to get the story in or maybe to make more money, but they probably could have just done long film - but I haven't seen the last part in a while so maybe with a re-watch I'll change my mind. Yeah, it's pretty good and it does do enough to keep it going, yeah, it's an enjoyable watch that kept me entertained for a couple of hours.

Movies: Dark Waters (12A), The Invisible Man (15) & Logan (DVD - 15)

Dark Waters (12A) - what's it about? Based on a true story where a big chemical company has been knowingly poisoning a small town in West Virginia for years.

I wanted to see this one just because it seemed interesting and I have to say it was a well-made movie, I don't think it needed to be that long, but it was still good. It mainly focuses around the case but also included stuff that was going on outside, so it's not just a courtroom drama. When I came out of the cinema after seeing the ending texts, I was really shocked, I just can't believe that a company can get away with doing this - it's just so messed up. Yeah if you want to watch what I consider a 'real life horror' about how screwed up this world is then this is the film for you.

The Invisible Man (15) - what's it about? A woman escapes her controlling husband, who then begins to torment her.

There seems to be a good few horrors coming up and this looked pretty good from the adverts, so I thought I'd give it a watch. It's nice to see a horror that isn't all ghosts and spooky stuff so that was refreshing. Yeah it was kind of freaky as well where you couldn't see him because of the technology, and it did actually make me jump a couple of times so that's good going for a horror! I'm not really a follower of actors/actresses but I do like Elisabeth Moss - she really can play these tormented characters well. Yep if you want to watch a mild-horror that's a little bit disturbing then this will be right up your street.

Logan (DVD - 15) - what's it about? The X-Men are no more, Wolverine is looking after Xavier, and he ends up protecting some mutant children.

I hadn't seen this since the cinema, and I found it cheap in the shop so I decided to pick it up and add it to my X-Men movie collection. This isn't an X-Men movie per-say but its good, its of course Logan/Wolverine film about his life and what happens to him and Xavier. That said its a good film but its not the best, its a nice story and brings in younger mutants which I was kind of hoping they were going to do something with after seeing it but sadly they didn't go anywhere. It's worth a watch if you like X-Men stuff, but really don't expect it to be really amazing.
