Movies: Underworld: Blood Wars (15), xXx: The Return of Xander Cage (12A) & Split (15)

Underworld: Blood Wars (15) – what’s it about? Selene returns and is pursued by the vampires who are in search of her daughter.

What to say, I was a little disappointed by the lack of cinemas showing it, as it’s a great movie series, guess where I live unless vampires sparkle it’s just not popular. Anyway yes the movie, it was great another great one in the series, again filled with some story and action. I really wish they would share more about the universe and the inner workings of the vampires/lycans, all you tend to know is about their in-fighting and conflict and not so much about stuff. Yeah, in short this is definitely another great one for the series and definitely worth a watch if you like the Underworld universe!

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage (12A) – what’s it about? Cage is called back to service once again to try to take down some bad guys.

So this movie, I’ve seen the previous one and wasn’t too pushed about seeing this but atm the only thing on in the cinemas are poxy real life or drama shit which make you want to throw yourself under a bus. Anyway this movie is more of the same, its boobs, bums, muscles, explosions, guns and violence; it’s your typical teenage boy’s heaven. If you like xXx then this is worth a look.

Split (15) – what’s it about? A guy with split personalities kidnaps 3 teenage girls.

This is a really weird movie, it took me a while to realise oh shit its Professor X and then I couldn’t unsee. It’s definitely an interesting movie and concept, I can’t really say too much as I don’t want to give anything away. It was a little slow in parts but overall it was a good watch, it’s probably not something that needs to be seen in the cinema though but worth a look if you like something a little drama-horror like.

TV Series: Spaced (DVD – 12), Dexter (DVD – 18) & The IT Crowd

Spaced (DVD – 12) – Two friends pretend to be a couple to get a flat.
This is a British sitcom from the late 90’s and when I came across this randomly in the shop

I had to get it! It’s one of those classic series’ and if you grew up in that era you’ve probably seen it. It’s a geek comedy I suppose you could call it about some flat mates and their adventures/misadventures in London. It’s got some great moments and humour that’ll make you lol. If you’re a geek and you have a quirky sense of humour that enjoys Simon Pegg’s work then this will be right up your street.

Rating: ****

Dexter (DVD – 18) – Dexter is a blood splatter analyst for Miami police but he’s also a serial killer.

I’ve just finished re-watching this whole series again, and I know I reviewed the final season a while ago when it was shown on TV but I feel now that I’ve seen the series back to back I’d like to share my thoughts on it as a whole. Ok so this series is an interesting concept about a serial killer who follows a code and only kills bad people. It’s a pretty dark series but it has an interesting plot, it’s one of those you can’t help but keep on watching and watching and watching. It has lots of twists and turns and nail biting moments and if you like a little bit of horror-drama that isn’t overly icky then this one might be just what you’re looking for.

The IT Crowd – the IT Crowd is based on an IT department that works for a large business.

I re-watched this as I hadn’t seen it since it was on TV, it’s a great sit-com show, with some good humour. I don’t usually like sitcom style stuff with all the crowd laughter as that just usually pisses me off, though this it works and it’s too good to pass up. If you work in IT you’ll relate to this or if you’re a bit geeky it’s really fun. If you haven’t seen it, then it’s definitely worth a watch or a re-watch!

Movies: Passengers (12A), Collateral Beauty (12A), A Monster Calls (12A), Assassin’s Creed (12A), Silence (15) & Iron Man (DVD - 12)

Passengers (12A) – what’s it about? A man wakes up prematurely on a space craft and has to figure out how to survive the ships epic journey.

Considering this movie is basically a film with just two people in it, its bloody damn good! I think this happens to be one of my top enjoyed films of 2016. It’s interesting, the characters and struggles are a true masterpiece, what can I say I don’t think there was anything about this film I didn’t like. A good space drama!

Collateral Beauty (12A) – what’s it about? After the death of his daughter Howard is not in a good place, his co-workers set in motion a plan which will either remove him from the company or get him out of his funk.

When you start to think about this movie it’s a little screwy, and it makes you wonder the intensions of humanity and how they are out to screw the good guy just because he’s now a broken man. It’s an interesting story but if not a little predicable really, I’d guessed the fully story quite a way off but it’s pretty still enjoyable.

A Monster Calls (12A) – what’s it about? Conor befriends a tree-monster whilst trying to cope with his mum’s terminal illness.

Well talk about traumatising, I wouldn’t say this is too much of a kid’s film as its pretty dark and deals with some very sad and emotional situations. That said it’s a good movie, just don’t be prepared for a happy film, and make sure you have your tissues at the ready unless you hard as nails you’re going to shed a tear or two in this one.

Assassin’s Creed (12A) – what’s it about? Cal goes into the animus and discovers he’s the descendant of a master assassin, and he’s faced with choices in the real world that will affect humanity.

I like the Assassin’s Creed universe, I love the games even though I’m probably the crappest assassin in the world but they are fun and I like the way this movie expands on the concept. I’d been dying to see this one so had my ticket booked for the UK release date, and I wasn’t disappointed, if I get chance I totally want to see it again!

Rating: ****

Silence (15) – what’s it about? Two priests are sent to Japan to find out what happened to a Father who was previously sent there.

Ok so what can I say about this one…the people that left the cinema after 15 minutes had the right idea! I stuck it out but omg (no pun intended) this was very long and extremely hard going; I came out the cinema completely mentally drained. I’m sure there are some people that will love this one but personally it’s not my cup of tea, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Iron Man (DVD - 12) – what’s it about? The origin story of how Tony Stark becomes Iron Man.

I thought I’d give this one a re-watch as I don’t think I’ve seen it for years, even though with this one being a little older now the graphics and stuff still hold up pretty well. It’s a good movie that gives a few laughs and a positive vibe, from a time when the Marvel series started to become more popular. It’s worth a watch/re-watch if you’re into your comic book heroes.
