Movies: Ghostbusters (2016) (12A), Star Trek: Beyond (12A), The BFG (PG) & X-Men: First Class (DVD – 12)

Ghostbusters (2016) (12A) – what’s it about? Ghosts invade Manhattan and a group of scientist’s team up to battle against the spooks.

Ok so I expected this film to basically be shite as I don’t think I like any film McCarthy has been in so much so I basically avoid watching anything she’s in…but this is Ghostbusters…Ghostbusters so I had to watch it! How annoying was this movie on the scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most annoying thing in existence and 1 being not annoying at all, probably about a 7. The characters were all pretty annoying, the plot was alright…it could have been way better if they had just made them a new set of Ghostbusters years later and not rebooted the series completely. Anyway yeah, I have to admit there were a couple of bits in this that did have me in stitches but I don’t think it has any re-watch factor like the old ones. I don’t know…it was a balance of good and bad ugh.

Star Trek: Beyond (12A) – what’s it about? The crew must survive their encounter with a hostile race on a distant planet.

Set phasers to stun! pew pew pew. This is the third in the series of Star Trek reboot movies and I expect by now you’ve probably seen them and you’ve made up your mind to if you love or hate them. For the haters don’t bother as I’m pretty sure this movie won’t change your mind on loving it, but for the lovers as you’ve enjoyed the rest of the movies then I would totally stop what you are doing and go and watch this asap! I don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say it continues the story well, has all the good special effects and action. I think it also gives Star Trek fans a bit more of a classic Star Trek feel, at points in this movie it was like a flash back to old school Star Trek and it was goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.

The BFG (PG) – what’s it about? Sophie is taken into the world of giants after she sees the BFG; she learns he’s really a big softie and the pair become friends.

This is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel, I remember reading this as a kid and loving it so I thought I’d have to go and see it for memories sake. I think they done this really well, the characters were spot on, yeah it’s a good take on the story and worth a look if you like the adventure and fantasy this one brings…oh yeah and there’s some good humour thrown in too (all I'll say is the corgis lol).

X-Men: First Class (DVD – 12) – what’s it about? Set in 1962 Charles Xavier teams up a band of mutants that are destined to become the X-Men.

I really thought I’d already done a review of this one so my bad for not. So this movie goes back and covers the story of the origin of the X-Men and the Brotherhood which begins the re-boot part of the franchise. I really like the X-Men but I’m not too fond of movies set in the past (they usually bore me to death); that said though it works well with the X-Men. This one manages to give a bit of depth to the characters and how they all came together. Yeah it’s got what you want from an X-Men movie, story, character stuff, action and well cool ass mutants! *must resist the urge to paint myself blue again, must resist*.
