5th Wave (15) – what’s it about? A spaceship
arrives and aliens attack earth in waves to kill off humanity.
This
was dubbed “Twilight but with Aliens” by the cinema but the adverts looked good
so I went to see it. This is definitely going to be one of those movies you’ll
either love of you’ll hate. It’s got a 15 certificate but really it should be a
12A; it’s definitely a teen movie and early teens at that. I personally thought
it was really good, it has aliens and more killing than all the Twilight movies
put together but it does have the underlining of love story…and you can predict
how that’ll go.

Mr & Mrs Smith (DVD
– 15)
– what’s it about? A husband and wife who are both secretly assassins and are
hired to kill each other.
This
is pretty amusing and fun in parts; it’s got a good lot of action and a little
story to go along with it. It’s just one of those easy watching movies that if
you haven’t seen you should maybe take a look at just because.
Creed (12A) – what’s it about?
Young Johnson takes up boxing full time and seeks Rocky as his coach.
If
you have seen any of the Rocky movie you know what to expect here, though Rocky
isn’t in the ring it’s still that type of thing, training, set-backs, more
training and then a big fight, usual stuff really but still very enjoyable.

Room (15) – what’s it about? After
Joy was abducted 7 years ago and held prisoner in a room, she sets plans in
motion for her son to escape.
This
is one of those emotional movies, it’s really well written and acted, I felt
for the characters…and yes I did cry a few times in this one! I did however find
it was a little longer than it needed to be towards the end but that said it’s
still a good watch. This is definitely not a happy film, so keep that in mind
when you set down to watch it.

The Revenant (15) – what’s it about?
After being attacked by Native Americans, the frontiersmen must survive and
return to their camp, one of which is left for dead out in the wilderness and
he must make the journey alone...
This
ones based on true events…it’s a good movie, well acted and a good mix of
story, survival and action, though none of it is heart pumping stuff it’s still
enjoyable. If once again a little depressing and a little longer than it needs
to be but yeah worth watching.

Iron Sky (DVD – 15) – what’s it about?
Space Nazis, basically Nazis made a base on the dark side of the moon and come
back to take over modern day earth …
This
was a re-watch as I saw it when it first came out on DVD, so I’ve seen in twice
now so it must be alright. It’s one of those movies that you have to take with
a sense of humour; it’s over the top, completely unbelievable but good in that
weird way that you shouldn’t really find it amusing but it just is.
Daddy’s Home (12A) – what’s it about?
Brad, a step-father, is faced with troubles as the kid’s real father returns and
the pair battle it out to be top dog.
This
movie was cringe worthy, I spent most of my time thinking wtf how bad this
movie was, yes there were a couple of funny moments but nothing that makes me
ever want to watch this again!

Joy (12A) – what’s it
about? The story of Joy as she creates her business empire
This
is basically a two hour advert for a mop, that said though it was pretty good. The
story was alright and the characters interesting but it wasn’t exactly what I
thought it was going to be, but still good.

The Danish Girl (15) – what’s it about? The
story of two artists, one of which goes on a transgender transformation, this
movie is inspired by Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener
I
wasn’t quite sure on watching this as it’s advertised as a romance film and I’m
not exactly a big fan of those but its actually about a lot more than that, it
has a really good story and was really interesting.

Shanghai Noon (DVD – 12) – what’s it about?
East meets west as an unlikely pair try to rescue the kidnapped Chinese
princess
This
is one of those action-comedies, if you like martial arts mayhem and humour and
a bit of the wild west as well then you’ll probably love this. It’s a good mix
with an alright story, action and comedy, worth a look if you haven’t seen
before!

Shanghai Knights (DVD –
12A) –
what’s it about? When the Emperors seal is stolen the duo head to the UK to
find it!
This
is the sequel to Shanghai Noon; if you liked that movie then this one will be
right up your street. It continues in the same vein but this time heads across
the pond from the US to the UK. Once again
it’s filled with martial arts, comedy and action and is a great combo-mix of it
all!

The Marine (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? His
wife gets kidnapped by robbers and he goes after them to save her…
“Ok
we need to make this movie be really cool so lets have explosions, loads of
them, everything must explode, there must be as many as possible, make it
explode, EVERYTHING and make it BIG!” I’m sure this is what the makers of this
film said, I’m not kidding literally everything in this movie explodes. It’s
one of those mindless movies that you just watch for the action, there is a
small dash of plot thrown in but yeah lots of mindless violence, action and
explosions. A good brain-dead movie!
